Data Classifications
The second step to Lumenate's Hierary of Needs Methodolgy is Data Classification. Data Classification itself is not really a technology, but rather a policy-driven practice of data categorization based on an understanding of the data on hand -- particularly unstructured data. Once you've learned what data you have and decide what data you need, Lumenate Technical Consultants can then employ technologies to assist in the actual movement, storage and disposal of that data based around the policies that you set.
Data classification serves the need for compliance and risk management -- mission critical data can be identified and protected to meet compliance audits or legal discovery tasks. But there are many other benefits that are often overlooked. Data classification offers a cost savings by allowing less important data to be migrated from expensive primary storage, such as Fibre Channel drives, to less expensive secondary storage systems.
Data Life-Cycle management (DLM) depends on a comprehensive implementation of data classification.
